He completed his master’s degree in International Relations in the Political Science department at the University of North Texas between 1984-87. From 1988-1991, he worked as an advisor to the General Director of TRT and to Adnan Kahveci. In 1991, he became the News Director for Sabah newspaper and later the Ankara Representative. He was involved in the establishment of ATV News Center and NTV. He appeared on TV screens with the programs “Gündemdekiler” and “Murat Birsel’le 5 Çayı” on NTV. Additionally, Murat Birsel has taught courses at ODTÜ.
